Five Trees

Five Trees stands out as one of Aspen’s most unique neighborhoods, offering expansive lots, estate-like homes, privacy, and a prime location near Aspen’s downtown core. With unparalleled ski-in ski-out access via a private lift, Five Trees provides exclusive access to Aspen Highlands, the top mountain in Aspen for expert skiers. Homes in this neighborhood are situated outside of the bounds of Aspen’s new regulations on new construction properties, which means that some custom homes are larger than those in other areas. Five Trees as a neighborhood appeals most to buyers searching for exceptional square footage and amenities.

Discover Five Trees Real Estate

The neighborhood of Five Trees is centered on Moore Drive, southwest of downtown Aspen and south of the creek. Real estate in this area comprises a small number of single-family homes—characterized by large lots, substantial square footage, and more traditional, lodge-style architecture. In fact, stone exteriors are a popular building material in this neighborhood, and although many of the homes are custom (by renowned architects and interior designers), this is a design element that carries through the community. To the north of Five Trees is the beautiful Aspen neighborhood of Meadowood.

Single-family homes for sale in Five Trees appeal to a variety of lifestyles. Much like other, similar neighborhoods in this area, these homes are great options for vacation properties—for the buyer who wishes to visit the area seasonally for skiing and other forms of outdoor recreation. Additionally, the large sizes of these homes mean that they are suitable for families, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate a number of people, including guests. Though square footage ranges from property to property, Five Trees homes routinely reach 8,000 to 10,000 square feet.

With significant square footage comes a wealth of amenities. As these luxury homes are custom built, they come with the high-end finishes and upgrades that are expected with these price points. While this, again, varies from property to property, it is not uncommon to find in-home gyms, saunas and hot tubs/outdoor pools, theater and/or game rooms, and so much more. This means Five Trees real estate is perfect for entertaining and just sitting back and relaxing—enjoying the picturesque landscapes and the tranquility this neighborhood offers.

Things To Do In Five Trees

From skiing to luxury shopping, there’s much to see and do in and around this mountain neighborhood.

By far, the most popular pastime for Five Trees residents is skiing, and this is due to the close proximity of the slopes. Aspen Highlands is one of the top resorts in the world, especially for experts who enjoy powder skiing. The Highlands Bowl, located at the top of the mountain, requires a strenuous 30-minute hike in thin air. However, those who commit will be rewarded with one of the best runs of their life. Many skiers have finished their day understanding what made Aspen so famous in the first place.

Otherwise, Highlands offers great expert tree skiing of the Deep Temerity lift, though the east aspect of this terrain means the snow can get sun affected in the morning. The long, rolling groomers are not to be overlooked either. Visitors can open up GS turns on trails like Golden Horn, Thunderbowl, Smuggler, and Jerome on the lower mountain. Even in the busiest of times, the slopes are blissfully uncrowded.

Highlands is legendary for the parties of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Until 2000, there wasn’t a base village. The wild bacchanals are over, but there are still places to kick back. At the base village, the Highlands Alehouse is one of Aspen’s best après ski bars around.

Discovering Downtown Aspen

Downtown Aspen is the hub of the infamous Aspen lifestyle. In addition to the outdoor opportunities, Aspen offers a vast array of cultural, entertainment, and luxury experiences that  make it one of the most upscale places to live in the country.

After skiing powder all day at the legendary Aspen Mountain, the hill that started it all, the Ajax Tavern is a great stop for some truffle fries and beers. Then, guests and visitors can head to the J-Bar for a classy yet historic dinner experience (and Aspen’s best burgers). Or, if that’s not luxurious enough, how about Bosq, Aspen’s own Michelin-starred restaurant. Next, the Belly Up offers a nightly lineup of great music acts. Finish the night off with a game of pool at the Silver City Saloon. Five Trees is just 5 minutes from downtown by car, so shopping and dining destinations are incredibly accessible.

Visiting Famed Maroon Creek & Maroon Bells

The Five Trees subdivision is located off Maroon Creek Road, which provides a gateway to some of the most stunning adventures in the Colorado Rockies. Past Five Trees and Aspen Highlands Resort, the road turns to dirt and leads to the Maroon Bells Wilderness, where hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing are unparalleled.

The Maroon Lake Scenic Trail provides a leisurely walk with breathtaking reflections of the peaks, while more challenging hikes like Crater Lake Trail and Four Pass Loop take adventurers deep into alpine wilderness. In winter, the road transforms into a snow-covered trail, perfect for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and biking.

Schools & Education In Five Trees

Five Trees is Aspen’s most family-friendly neighborhood due to the fact that all of Aspen’s public schools are within walking distance. It's a massive advantage for kids and parents alike.

The three public schools are Aspen Elementary School, grades PK-4; Aspen Middle School, grades 5-8; and Aspen High School, grades 9-12. Two private schools are Aspen Country Day School and Aspen Community School, both grades K-8. Additionally, the Wildwood School in East Aspen offers programs for Pre-K children between the ages of two and a half and five.
