Things To Do in Maroon Creek
Aspen is home to limitless activities, but here are Maroon Creek local amenities where you don’t even have to leave the neighborhood.
Skiing Buttermilk
Buttermilk is known as Aspen’s most family-friendly ski mountain. An abundance of green and blue trails grace the slopes of this gentle mountain. The groomers here are the best in the business, focusing on the needs of Buttermilk’s exclusive clientele.
Buttermilk has three lifts for absolute beginners near the base village. However, most skiers and riders will focus on the other three lifts that service the upper mountain: the Tiehack, Summit, and West Buttermilk Express high-speed quads. All three take skiers to the summit of Buttermilk, though Tiehack and Summit serve the East Summit, while West Buttermilk serves the West Summit (slightly higher).
Groomers like Buckskin, Columbine, and Camp Bird are long, intermediate classics. Despite the reputation as a family-friendly mountain, Buttermilk offers several black trails, mainly from the Tiehack lift. There’s also a bit of gladed tree skiing to round things out.
Maroon Creek Club
The Maroon Creek Club is a private club offering world-class golf and tennis. The gold course is a Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole course that, at 8,000 feet altitude, offers a uniquely challenging experience. There are also eight outdoor and four indoor tennis courts, four pickleball courts, an indoor and outdoor pool, and a fitness center. Members are also entitled to one of the best dining experiences in Aspen at the club’s restaurant.
Initiation fees are around $250,000 with annual dues clocking in around $40K. However, due to a land-lease agreement, Aspen residents are also entitled to use the facilities on a pay-per-day basis.
Aspen Rec Center
If the Maroon Creek Club is a bit out of your range, don’t miss the Aspen Rec Center, also known as “ARC.” The public offers a skating rink with pick-up hockey games, a fitness center, and a state-of-the-art swimming pool. There are also youth programs like karate and art classes.
Maroon Creek Schools
Maroon Creek is next door to Aspen’s public school campus, which houses the Aspen Elementary School, grades PK-4; Aspen Middle School, grades 5-8; and Aspen High School, grades 9-12. It’s a massive advantage for kids and families. Niche Rankings ranks the Aspen public school system 15th out of 181 districts in Colorado.
Two private schools are Aspen Country Day School and Aspen Community School, both grades K-8. Additionally, the Wildwood School in East Aspen offers programs for Pre-K children between the ages of two and a half and five.
