Tiehack Highlights
Discover Tiehack Real Estate
The neighborhood of Tiehack is located northwest of Downtown Aspen, near the Aspen Highlands ski resort and around the Maroon Creek Club golf course. Its real estate market consists of a mixture of single-family homes/estates and townhomes, though detached properties make up the slight majority. As Tiehack is a desirable neighborhood for its many amenities, there are often only a select few listings on the market.
Homes for sale in Tiehack are recognized for their ample square footage and gorgeous views of the green. While Aspen has its own regulations for the size of properties, Tiehack is most definitely on the higher end, with homes that are large and private—many 9,000 square footers—which is challenging to find in Aspen’s ski communities. Townhomes, though smaller in square footage, still give owners a lot of room at about 3,5000 to 5,000 square feet. Both property types have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, perfect for families and/or for those who have a lot of guests.
Recently developed, with most properties dating to the late-nineties. These properties aren’t as dated as the historic homes in Aspen, and lots are sized at about .5 to .6 acres. As well, Tiehack residences come at a discount to Aspen downtown per square foot.
Architecturally, Tiehack’s real estate leans more traditional, especially with the townhomes for sale. This lodge and cabin style typically extends to the interiors of the homes. The major townhome complex in the neighborhood is Maroon Creek (or Maroon Creek Townhomes), which offer the luxury lifestyle and single-family home feeling. At three levels in height, these properties back onto the golf course or have views of the surrounding landscapes.
While Taihack’s homes are desirable for their position on the golf course, they are also sought-after because they are ski-in/ski-out properties—some of the very few in the Aspen area (another similar neighborhood is Five Trees). Residents are just a short walk away from the Tiehack lift, and have views of Buttermilk Mountain and hiking trails.

Things To Do in Tiehack
There’s much to do outdoors in this part of Aspen. Locals adore the uphill ski route on Tiehack, which is perfect for a power hour of morning exercise. The Tiehack Express, which begins in the neighborhood, services some of Buttermilk’s best terrain.
The neighborhood is within close proximity to the Aspen airport—around 5 minutes by car. However, it’s on the other side of the mountain, so residents won’t hear the jets. Aspen schools are within walking distance of the community.
Skiing at Buttermilk
Buttermilk is not Aspen’s most famous ski mountain by any means, but it is the best for families and beginners. The mountain mainly consists of green and blue groomers, although there is also some black terrain, mainly on the Tiehack side. While other Aspen ski mountains are draped in the shadow of winter during January and February, Buttermilk receives abundant sunshine.
In addition to the three learning lifts at the base area, Buttermilk has three main lifts that service the upper mountain: the Tiehack, Summit, and West Buttermilk Express high-speed quads. The Tiehack lift reaches the East Summit of Buttermilk mountain and serves up a respectable 1,700 vertical drop.
A local favorite activity at Tiehack is to ski up the mountain along the designated uphill route under the Tiehack chair. Skiers can skin anytime you want, and dogs are even allowed outside resort operational hours. It’s also free if lifts aren’t used. Check out Buttermilk’s website for more details.
Hiking In Tiehack
In addition to skinning Tiehack, you can hike up in the summer. The trail starts at the parking area at the base of the lift and steeply climbs up Buttermilk Mountain, ending at the East Summit, atop the Tiehack chair, although it doesn’t directly follow the lift line up.
Another hiking opportunity right from Tiehack is the Maroon Gorge Trail, which follows Maroon Creek until Highway 82.
Tiehack Golfing
Maroon Creek Club is Aspen’s finest golf course and one of the town’s most exclusive private clubs. Don’t worry, residents don’t have to pay the $250,000 initiation fee or the $40,000 per year dues to play. The course is also available on a limited, per-day basis to full-time Aspen residents.
The golf course directly abuts the Tiehack subdivision; some Tiehack residents have the course as a backyard. As for the course, it’s a Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole adventure. Hint: at 8,000 feet of altitude, drives fly farther and straighter than at sea level.
The Maroon Creek Club also has eight outdoor and four indoor tennis courts, four pickleball courts, an indoor and outdoor pool, and a fitness center. Members are treated to one of the best dining experiences in Aspen at the club’s restaurant.
The Aspen Rec Center
Aspen Rec Center, also known as ARC, is one of the most adored local resources in the Valley, and that’s saying a lot for a valley that offers so much. ARC’s main amenities are a skating rink with pick-up hockey games and free-skate hours, a fitness center, and a state-of-the-art swimming pool.
Schools & Education In Tiehack
Tiehack is next door to Aspen’s public school campus, which houses Aspen Elementary School, grades PK-4; Aspen Middle School, grades 5-8; and Aspen High School, grades 9-12. It’s a massive advantage for kids and families. Niche Rankings ranks the Aspen public school system 15th out of 181 districts in Colorado.
Two private schools are Aspen Country Day School and Aspen Community School, both grades K-8. Additionally, the Wildwood School in East Aspen offers programs for Pre-K children between the ages of two and a half and five.
